School Uniform

This study is designed to examine the influence of school uniform on academic achievements, discipline infraction and dress code policies of public school. Student gender and type of school shows the influence of school dress code policy. Mandatory school uniform policy was implemented in 1996. Through the implementation of these school uniform policies, the importance of this study is based on social learning through figurative interactions. The message provided by people through their cloths is most easily observed phenomenon. So, clothing became more important source of information about the interaction of people every day. This theory implies on school environment, where student can perceive and characterized on basis of their apparel.

In 1998-1999, 11.5% of public schools had implemented uniform policies to mandatory school student which was increased up to 15.5% at the end of next year. It is very interesting to note growth patterns of school uniform policies taking on between these two years. Both rural and urban areas had increased their scope of policy implementation than suburban districts. This indicates that suburban peoples with their higher economic and education levels, resists implementation of uniform policies more than rural and urban counterparts. The school with high proportion of minorities, low levels of parental involvement and poverty level have higher tendency to implement the uniform policy adoption. The fascinating findings of facts, parents are supportive to these policies in order to implement with any respectable degree of compliance. Poor parents are more likely to put off educational authority to school, therefore less involved in their education. The subjective reasons for pursuing school uniform policies in public schools are ranged widely, reduce violence and behavioural problem, and foster unity of student and learning environment. School uniform reduces social pressure and differential status level. These findings exist still after controlled variables in schools to affect on it. Most of controlled variables don’t alterable as result of school uniform policy. Therefore, school policies don’t overcome variations in all school levels but educators should focus on alterable processes.

It must require students to wear uniform changed which doesn’t affects only on students but also parents and school faculty. Immediate highly visible uniform policy is going to alter, shifts the environmental landscape of particular school. The changing of landscape is superficial but it can gain attention due to its visible nature. Uniform policy of school can view as analogous to brightly painting a deteriorating structure of school, on other hand, it grabs attention. A school uniform policy is simplistic, cost free and appealing to common sense that is politically pleasant, hence, it finds more support.
